Replacing a fuel pump.. and howdy.

Postby Jasonf » Mon 31 Jul,2017 08:58

Hi there, I've been away from here for a while. Hope everyone is doing OK.

I've been away from biking for a couple of years, but this year I got my trust CBR600 F-sport back on the road, got it MOTd which it sailed through even with my shoddy maintenance.

But then after a ride back from work, it conked out.. properly conked out... but after a little while it'd start up again. This repeated with increasing severity and the amount of time before it would restart increased.

Initially, I thought it was the Jurassic fuel I had still in the tank - it'd been running fine to get it to its MOT and through it with the old fuel, and problems only really started when I filled up.

So I drained the tank and took it off to check.. I took the fuel pump housing out from the bottom of the tank - but everything is clean as a whistle.

I think it's the Reg/Rec now, so I've got one on order - but the problem I have is I'm not able to find a rubber fuel pump gasket/housing anywhere.

Will the original housing be OK to re-fit? Or do I really need a new one?

I've attached a picture of the fuel pump.

Hi Jason, as long as it's not perished that will be fine to re-use :)

It doesn't look perished. I'm just worried about it not getting a perfect seal and leaking fuel all over the bike engine while I'm riding... Which if it happens, it won't be a problem for long.. or ever again, but it will be quite spectacular at the time.

A lot of this type of seal are re-useable , if worried just keep an eye on it, if it did leak the signs would be there straight away
If in doubt
